Digambarpur Angikar
Angikar is a Bengali word which means to have a deep commitment towards certain ideology or goal. Digambarpur Angikar, an organisation having its root in the deltaic Sundarbans of West Bengal for over four decades now, has been harnessing its pledge towards a right based approach ever since its initiation.

Our Work
Education:
Digambarpur Angikar runs Creches, Pre-Primary Centre and a school since 2003 with total 483 boys and girls are attending regularly. The children are belongs to most marginalized families, migrant labourers and most of them are first generation of learners.
Child Care & Child Protection
Digambarpur Angikar runs shelter homes for the girls and boys who are needs to protection and care. Total 200 most vulnerable girls those are the victims of trafficking, sexual abused, early aged marriage, domestic violence, special children and abondoned children. Total 206 girls and 104 boys are staying in CNCP, CWSN, Cottage Home, SAA shelter homes.
Health
Promotion of primary health care services is one of the major thrust area of Digambarpur Angikar. Since inception, Mother and child heath care, care of ante-natal & post natal mothers, nutrition education and adolescent health care are continuing in the villages of Sundarban. We are running a waitinh hut for the pregnant and lactating mothers in the outreached area where hospital are far from the islands and requires 2 to 3 hours journey).
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH)
Safely managed Water, sanitation and hygiene services are essential part of preventing and protecting human health during infectious disease outbreaks.
Gender Equality:
Digambarpur Angikar is a Gender sensitive organization and all the programs implements with addressing gender and organizes series of gender sensitization sessions for both men and women in communities. Emphasises on enhancing decision making processes of women in plan and actions individually and collectively…
Livelihood Development:
Sustainable livelihood is one of the major areas of interventions of Digambarpur Angikar. Digambarpur Angikar organizes most vulnerable women like; Tiger Widows, Scheduled Tribes (ST), Scheduled Castes and other economically marginalized women through skill development, creation of women entrepreneurships both farm based – non-farm based livelihoods. The women entrepreneurs has linkages with local government departments, Panchayats and banks for the mobilization of available resources on livelihoods, technical guidance and other services.
Climate Change & DRR:
Digambarpur Angikar promotes Climate Change adaptation practices by plantation of trees, protection of mangroves, building awareness among community people and school students, introducing climate resilient agriculture, natural farming practices including revival of traditional varieties of seeds in farming, rain water conservations by the excavation and re-excavation of farm ponds, use of solar pumps, etc.
Emergency Relief Works:
Since the inception of the organization, Digambarpur Angikar responds rescue and relief operations to the people affected in all major & medium disasters like; cyclones, storms and floods. Digambarpur Angikar provided relief materials to the jobless, needy and migrant workers families during the Covid-19 pandemic and lockdown period.

Secretary’s Message
“—–Angikar is a platform for raising voices among the marginalized: Children, Youth, MSM, Transgender and Women, particularly: Fishermen, Dalit’s, tiger bite widows, Commercial Sex Workers and victims of trafficking and exploitations. Organization is serving the mankind since last four decades, particularly at Sundarban deltaic region with focus on child protection & Education, women empowerment, livelihood development, Disaster Management, Water-Sanitation and waste management. Every year around 350 no of victim children are accessing safe shelter followed by restoration to their family, around 400 children are covering through formal primary education and thousands of marginalized women, MSM & Transgender community are linkages into health facilities, livelihood development, Modern farm & non-farm management and Govt welfare schemes. Angikar is also involved scientific Municipal Solid Waste Management at 24 Municipal Towns in West Bengal.
We could not have done all this alone. Through dialogue we foster women & child empowerment and motivate people around the state to raise voice against injustice, discrimination and challenges faced by them which negatively affects people within a society. We have received immense support of generous public, corporates, foreign donors and all Government Departments to enrich our motto for the welfare of underprivileged.
